Beginning the Wednesday thru Saturday after Labor Day
Fort Madison, Iowa
Held in conjunction with the Tri-State Rodeo

Eligibility *

  • Be at least 19 years of age on January 1, 2009 and not have obtained the age of 26 on December 31, 2009

  • Legal resident of Iowa with a High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Never married or pregnant

  • Willing to represent Iowa the Miss Rodeo America 2010 Pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada

Miss Rodeo Iowa 2009 will receive a $1200 educational scholarship plus she will also receive a host of other awards including a trophy saddle, buckle, jewelry, clothing and much more.  As Miss Rodeo Iowa the titleholder will travel throughout the state promoting Pro Rodeo, Agriculture and the Western Lifestyle.  Appearances may include the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City, South Dakota; the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in San Antonio, TX; the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Pocatello, ID and many more!  The culmination of her reign will be when she represents the state at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant where she will be vying for the highest rodeo queen honor our nation has.

Awards are also given to the first and second runners-up, and the high scoring individual in the horsemanship, speech and photogenic categories.  The contestants will select a Miss Congeniality who will receive a special gift and the committee will select a young lady who best exemplifies the traits desired for the Larry Roberts Rodeo Spirit Award.

Contestants will compete in the following competitions:

  • Horsemanship - Two patterns minimum riding their own horse and then drawing for another.

  • Personal Interviews

  • Impromptu Questions

  • Prepared Speech

  • Photogenics

  • Written Test over Rodeo and Equine Knowledge

  • Rodeo Grand Entries

Entry Requirements

$150 Entry Fee (all meals and lodging provided during pageant)
1 Current 8 x 10 head and shoulders photograph in color with full western wear including hat (no crown or banners) to be worn.  
Email 1 black and white publicity photo to mripageant@yahoo.com on or before July 16, 2007.  Include your name and hometown.
Entry form completed with all waivers and releases

Unofficial Pageant Wardrobe Requirements 
This information is provided to help you begin your preparations and may be changed prior to the publication of the official Miss Rodeo Iowa Rulebook.
ALL CONTESTANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MIX AND MATCH THEIR WARDROBE ELEMENTS.  
Please be advised that a full wardrobe requirement list will be in the rulebook and that those are the official guidelines.

 

Horsemanship

Wrangler brand Western style pant product (any color)
Long sleeved fitted blouse - no vests or jackets allowed
Boots, belt and hat
Accessories (jewelry, scarf) at contestant discretion.

Personal Interview

Wrangler brand Western style pant product (any color)
Long sleeved blouse
Jacket or vest OPTIONAL
Boots, belt and hat
Accessories (jewelry, scarf) at contestant discretion.

 

Speech and Fashion Show/Coronation

Dress or skirt and blouse with Western flair and long sleeves
Jackets and/or vests are allowed
Boots, belt and hat
Accessories (jewelry, scarf) at contestant discretion.
* May be the same dress for both events.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday Rodeo Performances and Parade

Wrangler brand Western style pant product (any color)
Long sleeved fitted blouse - no vests or jackets allowed
WEDNESDAY IS TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK - PINK REQUIRED!
Boots, belt and hat
Accessories (jewelry, scarf) at contestant discretion.
* May use outfits more than once!

 

Novelty Outfit

Each contestant will present a 'novelty' outfit at the Fashion Show/Coronation.
This outfit is to reflect their personality, an aspect of their life, etc.  Past outfits
have included pajama's (rodeo dreaming), rodeo clown (favorite part of the rodeo),
vintage western wear, etc.  Be prepared to provide a 30-second description
of why you've chosen your outfit to the audience.

 

Dance Practice

Contestants must wear t-shirts provided by the Miss Rodeo Iowa pageant
along with their own shorts, sweats, or dance leggings in good taste.
Pageant officials reserve the right to request contestant change if their
clothing is deemed inappropriate. 

Tentative Schedule
A full, official schedule will be sent with the entry confirmation packet which is mailed after all entries are received.

Wednesday
Afternoon - Check in at hotel, move into rooms (at contestant discretion)
Evening - Rodeo performance and grand entry, orientation
WEDNESDAY RODEO PERFORMANCE IS TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK - PINK REQUIRED!

Thursday
Morning - Breakfast, Horsemanship, Fashion Show Wardrobe Fittings
Afternoon - Personal Interviews
Evening - Dinner and Rodeo Performance followed by Fashion Show Rehearsal

Friday
Morning - Fashion Show Rehearsal, Test
Afternoon - Speeches
Evening - Dinner and Rodeo Performance followed by Group Interview

Saturday
Morning - Parade
Afternoon - Fashion Show and Coronation
